… As Vacation Training Kicks Off on June 23 With New Offerings, Online Opportunities, Open Access for All
In a bid to empower students to be job creators rather than job seekers and also close the widening skills gap affecting the nation’s labour market, the Centre for Entrepreneurial Studies (CENTS), Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), has announced the launch of a dynamic Six-Week Intensive Vacation Training Programme starting on Monday, June 23, 2025.

The vacation programme, aimed at equipping students with practical, future-ready skills, has been redesigned for maximum impact, and was already generating buzz across campus as CENTS rolled out state-of-the-art facilities, passionate trainers, and highly subsidised hands-on courses tailored to bridge the divide between academic learning and real-world application.

Speaking with the duo of Olasunkanmi Olajide & Aduragbemi Oke of FUNAAB Bulletin, the Director of CENTS, Prof. Emily Ayo-John, affirmed the Centre’s readiness, stating, “We are here, we are ready, and we are waiting for the students. We have both the expertise and the facilities on the ground. All we need now is for the students to seize the opportunity.”

Empowerment Redefined: Learn Anywhere, Anytime
For students unable to participate physically—especially those who have travelled—CENTS has forged a powerful partnership with GFA Ogun Technologies to deliver online career-enhancing courses through the Ogun Skills Programme. The courses—ranging from tech to entrepreneurship and business modules—are self-paced and accessible from anywhere worldwide, ensuring that no student is left behind.

“Every student of FUNAAB should aim to complete at least one certified course,” Prof. Ayo-John emphasised. “These trainings are designed to strengthen career goals, expand skill sets, and enhance self-reliance—whether on-campus or off.”

Passion Over Profit: The Spirit Behind the Skills
At the heart of the programme are CENTS’ skill leaders—seasoned professionals driven by passion, not profit. “These are people making incredible sacrifices. They are here because they genuinely want to make a difference,” the Director noted. With courses like Content Creation and Information Management, Fashion Design, Catering, Shoemaking, and more, the Centre is fast becoming FUNAAB’s hub of innovation and enterprise.

Beyond Students: A Centre for All
In a game-changing revelation, CENTS has opened its doors not just to students, but to staff and members of the surrounding community. From business plan development to enterprise incubation, the Centre is positioning itself as a resource hub for micro, small, and medium enterprises.

“We are here to help anyone with a business idea—from validation to execution,” said Prof. Ayo-John. “Our equipment is available to use—you don’t have to own a machine to start.”

A Solution to the Prevailing Skills Mismatch
With unemployment rates soaring and industries demanding more than just academic qualifications, CENTS is taking the lead in offering practical, relevant, and empowering alternatives. “The traditional academic path alone is no longer enough,” she stressed. “What we need today are problem solvers—students equipped with collaboration, critical thinking, innovation, and adaptability.”

Looking Ahead: More in the Pipeline
CENTS isn’t slowing down. A three-day empowerment programme for staff is already in the works, and new collaborations are on the horizon. “There’s more to come,” Prof. Ayo-John assured, “and by the grace of God, we are going even further.”

Final Word
Prof. Ayo-John’s message is simple but profound: “CENTS is open for you. Whether you’re a student, staff, or aspiring entrepreneur—come. This is your time. Don’t miss it.”
