Former Acting Vice – Chancellor, Prof. Ololade Enikuomehin has admonished the Vice – Chancellor, Prof. Olusola Babatunde Kehinde, Management team and the entire Staff and Students of the University to absolutely trust and depend solely on God to build FUNAAB to an enviable global standard and status.

Prof. Enikuomehin gave the admonition in his Exhortation titled, “That The Lord May Build FUNAAB” at an Interdenominational Church Service, held earlier today at the University’s Chapel of Grace, Alabata Permanent Site.

Prof. Enikuomehin  took his Bible reference from Psalm 127 verse 1 which read, ” Unless the Lord build the house, it’s builders labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchmen stand guard in vain”.

Smarting from the Bible passage aforementioned, Prof Enikuomehin declared boldly that “Except the Lord is involved, the efforts of the Vice – Chancellor, his Management team and the rest of us as members of staff and students would be in vain”.

However, he pointed out that “if the Lord is doing the building of FUNAAB, the Vice -Chancellor, the Management team and rest of us the followers will do less work because God has designed for all of us to work less because God is the one building”.

Prof. Enikuomehin pin-pointed that “The fact that we are celebrating 30th Convocation Ceremonies is an indication that the good Lord is with us to build our University”.

But the Preacher  sounded a note of caution: “Be rest assured that God will not descend from heaven to build our University for us; Rather He will use you and me. He will use the Vice – Chancellor, the University Management and the rest of us as members of staff and students”.

Prof. Enikuomehin pointed out that “This is the more reason why you and I just have to cooperate with the Vice – Chancellor and our nation and more importantly, pray for the VC and our nation” because we are already experiencing the magnitude of harsh famine which hit the city of Samaria as recorded  in the Book of 2nd King Chapter 6 verse 24 but at the end of the day God removed the famine and restored the people to buoyancy’.

Preaching further, Prof. Enikuomehin disclosed that “In building our University, God needs two groups of people: God needs the King: that is the Vice – Chancellor and his team (but usually the Vice – Chancellor is a reference point) and the second group is the rest of us, the followers, who are the reason for why God made him the Vice – Chancellor””.

Prof. Enikuomehin admonished further by articulating the features of the King ditto the Vice – Chancellor:

According to him, “Vice -Chancellor Sir, in the sight of the Lord you matters. Sir, when you are depressed and groaning in the face of challenges reckon that God is with you and He will surely do it for you”.

He stressed, “In Psalm 121, despite the fact that the King threatened to cut the head of Elisha he still went back to God. He didn’t push the challenges of the people back to them”

“Mr. Vice – Chancellor, when the people murmur  just go to God and when you turn to God He will move for you and the people”.

The Preacher further counseled, ” Our VC sir, you don’t need to go fasting and praying in the face of challenges like the ones we are facing now in our country and of course the attendant effect on our University”;

“Your burden is to recognise God and even in your thought, I mean in your thought alone God will answer you, especially because of the multitude of staff and students that He has committed into your hand”.

Buttressing his admonition with his true life experience when he was in the saddle of the University as Acting Vice – Chancellor, Prof. Enikuomehin vividly recalled that “Shortly after I assumed Office as Acting VC, series of death in our University was becoming a burden to me. I prayed and after my prayer I felt that God heard me because it occurred to me that there will be a shower the following morning””

He continued, “On my way to my office the following morning, all the way from home the sky was not misty, there was no cloud, nonetheless any sign of downpour. However, when I got between Health Centre and “Olumo” Rock (our own Olumo Rock on Campus) there was a shower and I remembered the feeling of the previous day after prayer. That is how God answered my prayer””.

Still admonishing the Vice- Chancellor and his Management team from the Book of King Chapter 20 verse 28, Prof. Enikuomehin averred, “If a King is kind, honest and fair, his Kingdom will stand secured.VC Sir, be kind and be honest. God his mindful of you and He will help you””.

Speaking on the third feature of a King, the Preacher stated, The King often go round the city. My VC I know you do it. Do it more sir. Go round, go to places, see things yourself because that is where the treasures are hidden. If you go round unexpectedly with the desire to find out things God will open doors for you”.

“God wants you to be closed to them, be accessible to them. Don’t despise anybody in the system. Don’t say they are not relevant in the system. Identify with them, reckon with them because the way God work is such that He often use the foolishness of the low cadre to confound the wisdom of the wise even to perform wonders in an establishment like ours”.

Narrowing down to the features of members of staff and students, Prof. Enikuomehin informed that one of their responsibilities is to “stay away from ungodliness. Don’t do anything outside the University regulations”.

He also stressed that “Members of Staff and Students should know that the VC cannot do anything except God grant him to do it””.

Making reference to 1st Timothy Chapter 2 verses 1 to 3, Prof. Enikuomehin advised that “Instead of putting our hope in the masculinity, contacts and assurances of the Vice – Chancellor, let’s put on our trust in God to do the needful”.

Still speaking on the responsibilities of Staff and Students, he counseled that “Let’s pray for the VC and the Management. Let’s pray for the nation. It’s not about whether you like what the VC is doing or not, if you make it a point of emphasy to pray for the leadership of our University and our nation God will reward you. He will credit you for the prayers you prayed”.

Prof. Enikuomehin admonished members of the University Community saying, “Don’t spend your time to be his friend but spend your time to pray for the VC, the University and our nation, at large”.

Concluding his Exhortation which was concise, revealing and thought provoking, the former Acting Vice – Chancellor admonished members of staff, urging them “Let’s obey constituted authority. Lets follow the rules and regulations and it is one of the ways through which we can join God in building FUNAAB”.

Prof. Enikuomehin commended and thanked the Vice – Chancellor and his team stating that “I thank God for our VC and the Management. Within a short period in office we’ve started seeing your efforts at ameliorating the pains of our people in respect to easing the burden of transportation with provision of free ride to and fro campus, among others. God bless you sir”.

The Interdenominational Service peaked with special prayers for the University, the Chancellor, Pro-Chancellor, Vice -Chancellor, Staff and Students, the 30th Convocation Ceremonies, as well as thanksgiving to God for His faithfulness to the University since inception.

Special hymns and anthems were rendered by the congregation and glorious choir of Chapel of Grace respectively to the glory of God, as well as ceremonial performance by the Boys Brigade.

The Vice – Chancellor was accompanied to the Service by his wife, Prof. Iyabode  Kehinde who is the Dean of College of Biological Sciences (COLBIOS), Principal Officers, Chairman CODAD, Prof. Olusiji Sowande, Deans and Directors, Heads of Directorates and Units, FUNAABITES, among others.
