Department of Mechanical Engineering

The philosophy is to produce a professional in Mechanical Engineering who is concerned with the analysis, design and synthesis of systems such as prime movers, internal combustion engines, and steam and gas turbines, refrigeration and airconditioning equipment, machine tools, material handling systems, elevators and escalators, industrial production equipment, robots used in manufacturing and interaction between these machines and human elements. Such a professional use the principles of energy, materials, and mechanics to design and manufacture machines and devices of all types and create the processes and systems that drive technology and industry.

On successful completion of the programme, such graduate shall be able to:

  1. Prepare, read and interpret Engineering drawings.
  2. Develop ideas and concepts for the solution of practical mechanical engineering problems using divergent thinking and induction. iii. Exercise initiative, judgement and creative ability in the use of engineering principles for the solution of practical engineering problems.
  3. Use appropriate technology to install, operate, maintain and service plant/machinery tools and equipment.
