Students of Microbiology Course (MCB 422), College of Biosciences (COLBIOS), recently held the 2025/2026 Academic Session Entrepreneurship Exhibition, showcasing the creativity, innovation and entrepreneurial potential of final-year Microbiology students.
The exhibition, which was held at the COLBIOS Car Park, attracted dignitaries, Academic staff and students from across the College. Among those in attendance were the Dean of COLBIOS, Prof. Iyabode Kehinde; the Course Coordinator, Prof. Oluwatoyin Afolabi; the Assistant Course Coordinator, Dr. Seun Adebajo; and the Course Lecturer, Dr. Idayat Agboola, along with other Heads of Departments and several lecturers within the College.

In her address, the Dean commended the Course Coordinator, lecturers and the Department of Microbiology for sustaining the initiative over the past six Academic Sessions. She described the exhibition as a platform that consistently demonstrated the ingenuity and practical capabilities of Microbiology students.
She further stressed the importance of self-employment and urged Nigerians to contribute towards transforming the nation from a consumer-driven economy to a self-reliant and productive one. Prof. Kehinde also announced that beginning from the next Academic Session, the programme would be expanded into a full COLBIOS Exhibition, encouraging other Departments within the College to develop innovative products for future showcases.
Earlier, Prof. Afolabi noted that the exhibition had become an annual tradition within COLBIOS, aimed at exposing students to practical entrepreneurial opportunities in Microbiology. According to her, the exhibition featured a variety of microbiological products developed by students, including antiseptics, fermented bean cake powder, pine vinegar, coconut oil and ‘ogi’ powder.
She explained that the primary objective of the course was to equip students with entrepreneurial skills that would make them self-reliant and job creators, rather than relying solely on scarce white-collar jobs.

A major highlight of the event was the recognition of a differently-abled final-year Microbiology student, Ajayi Aduragbemi Temitope, who was celebrated for her resilience, determination and outstanding academic performance despite her challenges.
Students, lecturers and Departmental representatives presented her with gift items and monetary donations in appreciation of her inspiring perseverance. Donations were made by the Dean, Course Coordinators, Lecturers and Departments across the College.
The exhibition concluded with goodwill messages from the Heads of Departments present, who encouraged the students to remain innovative, resilient and committed to entrepreneurial development.
