Introduction

Student Affairs Division, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta is under the Office of the Vice-Chancellor. The Division is headed by the Dean, Student Affairs who is a member of the University Senate and also responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for the day-to-day running of the Division. The Dean is assisted by a Deputy Dean, a Senior Registry Staff and, a team of non-teaching staff.

Brief History

FUNAAB has had eleven Dean of Students to date. They are:

• Prof Amusa (1988-1989; on one year Sabbatical);
• Prof. I.F. Adu (1989-1995);
• Prof. M.T. Adetunji (1996-1998);
• Prof. C.F.I. Onwuka (1999-2005);
• Prof. C.O.N. Ikeobi (Feb 2005- April 2008);
• Prof. S.A. Oluwalana (May 2008 -May 2012);
• Prof. O. Onifade (May 2012 – April. 2013);
• Prof. Y. Akegbejo- Samson (May 2013 – 2017);
• Prof. T.M.A. Olayanju (March 2017 – July 2017);
• Prof A.B. Idowu (August 2017 – Dec 2019);
• Prof. A. Mobolaji Omemu (2020 till Date-first female Dean of students)

Functions

The Division oversees the welfare of Students (Undergraduate and Postgraduate) of the University and functions as a bridge between the students and the university administration. Students can forward their general or personal challenges, requests, and complaints on any issue (academic, hostel, transportation, clubs, etc) through the Student Affairs Division to the university administration.

Structure

In achieving the mandates of the division, it is administratively divided into different units.

1. Counseling Unit
2. Hostel Management and Allocation Unit
3. National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Unit
4. Scholarships and Bursaries Unit

Responsibilities

The different units work hand in hand to ensure the smooth running of the division by performing the following:

1. Student Disciplinary Committee (SDC): The student affairs division process all the papers for the Student Disciplinary Committee (SDC). Each student is given a copy of the University Calendar which contains the rules and regulations of the University in the areas of expected general conducts, examination regulations, discipline, participation in student organizations, etc. and the penalties for their violation;
2. Registration of Students’ Associations/Clubs: The Student Affairs division is responsible for the registration of all Students’ Associations, Societies and clubs on campus; also monitor their activities to ensure that they comply with existing rules and regulations. Registration and monitoring unit. Student;
3. Student Union activities: Co-ordinates Student union activities including Student Representative Council elections, swearing in-ceremony of elected Students’ Union and leadership training for new students’ executives;
4. General student issues: the Student’s Affairs division is also involved in the following:

• • Preparation and Issuance of Clearance and yearbook to graduating Students;
  • Assisting Students in resolving issues of Deferment, Leave of Absence, Welfare, conflict resolution and providing special services for students with special needs

The Student Affairs Division also serves as Secretariat to the following statutory committees of the Senate:

• Student Disciplinary Committee (SDC)
• Student Welfare and Hostel Management Committee (SWEHOMAC)
